With patio furniture, extra care is to be taken. Since patio furniture and accessories are more vulnerable to outdoor elements, you need to apply special cleaning techniques to keep them in a good-looking form. Here are some cleaning techniques for specific patio furniture and accessories.
Cleaning for patio cushions
Patio cushions add a sophisticated appeal to your outdoor along with providing a comfortable seating arrangement. However, patio cushions are some of the most used patio furniture accessories.
- Cleaning Technique
Make a mixture of dishwashing detergent, warm water and 1 tablespoon of Borax. Take a sponge and saturate it with the mixture and apply to the cushions. You can also put the mixture in a spray bottle and spray mixture onto cushion surfaces, especially creases and crevices. Let the mixture be on the cushions for 15 minutes and then hose the cushions using water. Stand the cushion on their edge out of direct sun. Once dried, spray them with a fabric protector. Before applying this cleaning technique, make sure you have removed all the dust and dirt accumulated on the surfaces.
Chair back & Canvas Seat
If your canvas can be removed, you can wash it in the machine. Most of the canvas are machine-washable. Just keep in mind that you need to place the canvas back to the furniture while it is damp, in order to maintain the canvas shape.
If your canvas cannot be removed, you can use scrub brush and laundry soap. Run brush back and forth across the soap and scrub your canvas. Wash it well with water and stand all the cushions up on the edge. This cleaning technique removes stains and bird droppings also.
Make a mixture of warm water and a mild dishwashing detergent containing a bleaching agent. Using soft bristle brush or sponge, scrub the mixture onto the surfaces and leave them for 15 minutes. Then rinse the furniture with water. This method is only for white plastic not colored plastic.
