Making the Best of Chronic Bad Weather

Terrible WeatherWe’ve talked about weather in general. We’ve talked about it changing rapidly. But what about when you outdoor furniture has to survive a setting where the weather is bad nearly all the time? That can be very tricky in extremely hot areas like parts of America and rainy sections of the UK. There are things you can do though.

Getting a blend that can stand up to a lot of moisture is very important. This makes certain types of wood, fiber and even metal furniture unsuitable. Depending on how it is made they can become more or less resilient to the weather. Be sure to make sure to pick one that is perfect for whatever setting you are in.

Iron is one type of outdoor furniture that can last for a long time. Wrought iron is even better. It can be heavy to move around but it can stand up to most any type of weather. With some minor maintenance it can keep looking amazing for years. This might be your best choice if you want one that can stand up for many years.

Aluminum is a good choice but many people don’t like the color of it. It won’t last as long with your outdoor furniture as iron but it’s not that expensive. It requires a decent amount of maintenance in order to keep looking great.

Wood furniture comes in many varieties as well as wicker. Teak and Redwood blends are some of your best choices with these. These also may require a good amount of maintenance but a sealant can make it better.

Wind is a huge consideration so make sure to pick pieces that are somewhat heavy and sturdy. It is a real pain to watch a prized piece fly away on you. Moisture and the lack of it can also be a big problem. If you live in a moist environment be sure to pick a piece that doesn’t readily absorb the moisture. If you are in a desert-type area then you want the opposite. Choose something that can withstand the heat without cracking.

So once you have the material down you have to talk about comfort. You will need some sort of cushions and the bad news there is that normal ones are not suitable. Average ones are not set up to handle it. So you can either clean your normal ones very regularly in order to keep them clean or buy some different ones. They can be fairly expensive but are worth it.

Of course if this is all sounding like too much then you can go for “All Weather” furniture. Unfortunately the quality of these varies quite a bit. Make sure you aren’t duped by some company claiming that it can hold up to rough conditions. You may get home and find out that your outdoor furniture is not fit to actually be placed outside on your patio. If you follow these simple laws then everything should be in great condition for years to come.
